Why Sit an MRCS Mock Exam with Real Examiners?

Why Sit an MRCS Mock Exam with Real Examiners?

Many candidates who fail MRCS Part B know enough. What lets them down is the exam itself: the clock, the unfamiliar station, the examiner watching quietly with a mark sheet. A good mock exam takes away that surprise before it costs you a sitting.

What a mock gives you that revision can't

  • The real format. Stations you haven't seen before, read in a minute and completed in about nine, just like on the day.
  • Honest marking. Examiners who sit on the real circuit mark you the way they mark candidates in the exam, so the feedback reflects your true level.
  • Feedback while it is fresh. You hear what went well and what cost you marks straight after the station, not weeks later.
  • Nerves, rehearsed. The second time you walk into a station under pressure is much easier than the first.

How the VA Academy mock works

Before each exam sitting we run hands-on MRCS Part B mock exams at our centre in the 5th Settlement, Cairo:

  • 16 carefully selected OSCE stations across the knowledge and skills domains
  • Run and marked by Royal College examiners
  • Immediate feedback from the examiners
  • The atmosphere and timing of the real exam

Doctors travelling from abroad to sit the exam in Egypt often join a mock in the same period, so they can rehearse the whole experience before the real day.

When to book

The best time is two to four weeks before your exam: late enough that you have covered the material, early enough to act on the feedback. Places are limited to keep the experience close to the real exam, and waves fill quickly in the weeks before each sitting, so book as soon as you know your exam date.

Can't come to Cairo?

You can still practise with an examiner. Book a one-to-one mock station on Zoom: choose the topic and scenario, pick your examiner and a time, and get your feedback at the end of the station.
